Advanced Survival Skills builds on the material taught in the Survival Skills and Nature Awareness course by introducing students to more advanced skills and techniques. These skills and techniques are again based around the Sacred Order of Survival but this time students are asked to address their longer term needs as they relate to shelter, water, fire and food. With this long-term focus students are able to delve deeper into tribal life and explore primitive skills as art. During the course students will be introduced to the advanced skills of brain tanning animal skins for use as bags or clothing, making stone tools, primitive cooking techniques, making natural cordage, and making baskets for carrying food.

Advanced awareness techniques will be taught including the ancient art of stalking and natural camouflage in which students will be challenged to become ‘invisible’ by fusing with the landscape. Blindfolds will be used to engage ‘extra sensory perception’ and to expand awareness. Also teachings about the ‘concentric rings of nature’ and ‘bird language’ will be introduced as a way of empowering students’ nature observation skills. Through the same themes of ‘seeing through native eyes’, working together as a ‘tribe’, and being a ‘caretaker’ of the land, the Advanced Survival Skills course takes students deeper into the world of survival and living as one with the Earth.
Advanced Survival Skills is a 3 day camp experience suitable for ages 12-18. To request more information about this adventure based learning experience click here.
