The Survival Skills and Nature Awareness camp introduces students to universal survival skills and awareness techniques that were the basis of all primitive cultures. During this course students are reminded of their most basic human needs: shelter, water, fire, and food. Through a hands-on approach students are taught how to satisfy these needs with only what nature provides. In this context the survival skills and awareness techniques are used as a tool to reconnect students to the Earth in a dynamic and powerful way.

Students are also given the opportunity to journey back in time and experience what it used to be like to walk as a ‘native’ in the Australian bush and belong to a ‘tribe’. During the course students are placed into different tribal groups and challenged to see through native eyes and to think and work together to achieve learning outcomes. These scenarios are designed to allow students to think about themselves not only as an individual but also as an important member of the tribe. This process allows students to bond with each other and also encourages teamwork, cooperation, and communication.
